We flew out early Saturday morning after waking up at 4:30 am Arizona time. Sunny's Mom and step-dad were the "lucky" ones who got to take us to the airport. Upon arriving at the airport dressed in our Utah red, we ran into some fellow alumni we know, who were also crazy enough to fly up to Salt Lake for the game. The flight was fine. Nothing too exciting to report. After exiting the Salt Lake airport, we took a deep breath and felt our lungs start to burn from the cold. We are such wimps! Adam is now officially an Arizonan and was as cold if not colder than Sunny.
We were excited to see Adam's parents as they picked us up from the airport. We had not seen them since Adam's graduation in May. They picked us up in their red car (LOVE how they chose to drive that particular car that day!) had Chester, the dog with them and we headed home. Before we got to the house, we needed to buy Adam a jacket for the game. He has a winter coat up there, but HAD to have a Utah jacket for the game. The shopping excursion was successful and we probably purchased EVERY Utah item they had in the store before heading to the house. :)
Sunny had two requests for the weekend - "Wingers" and "The Pie." Lucky for her we made it to both of those places. We went to lunch and partook of the all you can eat wings AND took leftovers home to munch on throughout the weekend. The countdown at that time was officially on and Adam, his Dad, and brother were SO funny to watch as they donned their Utah gear and paced around waiting for game time.
It was now time for the big game and we parted ways. Sunny was the smart one (I can put this since I'm the one typing LOL) and decided to go shopping and Adam headed to Rice-Eccles stadium with his family and a bunch of other crazed fans. It had been 6 years since Adam had been back in the stadium, so he was excited to return "home." Adam texted Sunny all night with updates and at one point the game was tied. This worried Sunny knowing that if they lost, it would be a LONG weekend. :) 4 quarters later, the Utah Utes defeated the BYU Cougars and became the second team in school history to go undefeated! Now, we just wait and see what bowl game we'll be attending and yes, we are going! You know what we will be doing around New Years!
Sunday, we attended church with Adam's family and both Adam and his Dad wore their Utah ties. What would they have worn had the Utes lost?!? After church we started our Thanksgiving preparations. We are so grateful that we were able to celebrate up in Utah. The spread was awesome! Adam's Mom went overboard and spoiled us rotten! We finished the night with talk about what bowl game we think Utah will go to. You can see where their minds were. :)
Our trip went by way too fast. We were able to visit with more family and spend time enjoying each others company. The trip may have been initiated with the Utah football game, but the important part was the time we were able to spend with each other. We are both SO lucky to have family and friends all over the country who care for and love us, something neither of us would trade for the world!
On Monday, we finished our trip with a stop at "The Pie." This place is a restaurant near the University of Utah campus that has been there FOREVER. It's your typical college dive, but has the best pizza and LOTS of it. As you can see from the picture, the portions are HUGE and we had leftovers that lasted another meal. Monday night arrived quicker than we would have liked. We left SLC and headed back home. Again, we had so much fun and Adam's parents sure are wonderful hosts. We can't wait for them to come down here for Christmas. We love you guys!!!
